Meet John C. Helweg, MCSA/MCSE, Security +

I am a second generation security practitioner with skills that cover physical security to network security. My career has crossed over several security related industries. I was born in to the locksmithing profession. My dad began teaching me the trade at a young age and he used to take me to GHLA meetings as a kid. In the early 80's my dad expanded in to the alarm business. Throughout high school and college I worked for my dad gaining valuable experience in both locksmithing and alarm systems. In March 1999, I received an offer that I could not refuse; to work at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Human Resources Information Management. I worked there for almost a decade learning and supporting computers, servers, web design, network security, data management and much more. After careful consideration I left M. D. Anderson in September 2008 and came back to the family business to partner with my dad full-time, grow the business and take over the day to day operations. I plugged in to the applicable local and state trade associations and got involved with the legislative and regulatory process and before I knew it I was volunteering on the association boards.
